The third grade book club is having lively discussions about their favorite parts of the book, wondering why and how parts of the book happened, and connecting the events in the book to things in their everyday lives. They really interact with each other over  a great read and  make the books come alive with their discussions.

Each student was asked to come to book club fully prepared to present their assigned aspect of the discussion. When it was their turn to present, they were the moderator of that section of the book club.

We have seen lots of growth in working in a group setting, as we have had these book clubs throughout the year. When they started, the students required quite a bit of direction  to get the discussion going. Now there is so much great interchanging of ideas, a timer must be set to finally (and sadly) end discussion time.

Oprah’s Book Clubs have nothing on Third Grade!
